Detroit Something

"Nothing will come of nothing." -Shakespeare's King Lear I.I 25, Bibliophile, sapiophile, and educator living and working in Detroit.
Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the the graduating Co-Valedictorians from my first school.  (You may remember them from this video.)
If I have a son and he turned out anything like these two young men, I couldn’t possibly be more proud.
You are looking at
two incoming University of Michigan Wolverines with full academic scholarships.
recipients of over $150,000 in scholarships and grants (EACH).
two national honor society members.
one 4-star recruit and Fall 2013 starting tight end for the University of Michigan football team (who is also majoring in Mechanical Engineering)
starters for the Crockett and EEVPA city champion football teams.
kind, selfless, and generous individuals that put family and community before themselves.
the authors of the two best synthesis essays I have ever read.
You are also looking at two young men that defy a troubling trend of a lack of male valedictorians in the city of Detroit.  These guys, guys.  Climbing the mountain.  Shaking up education in Detroit.  Amazing.
